You can definitely tell the difference between a low quality song (192kbps) and a higher quality song (500+kbps). Also you can just barely hear yourself in the a30s, so you have good feedback on whats going on about your voice.)Sound quality is impressive. And if the mic leaves the sweet spot you sound much more quite. It works really well, but there is a sweet spot for the mic in front of your mouth.

The only issue I have with the mic is the noise cancellation.

But once I turn the mixamp more toward voice, understanding others isn't an issue. Understanding other people is usually difficult for me because it is mixed in with music and game sounds. Talking to people on Xbox Live, I'm almost always understood. To start off I'll talk about the voice/mic quality. Ok so its been more than two years now since I originally recieved the a30s and my first review. If you are looking for utilitarian headphone system then I highly recommend picking up a pair of the Astro A30.

The wireless set up is nice and convenient for use with my Xbox & PS3 since it's just a simple optical cable switch. The headphones themselves come with a few different accessories to accommodate whatever your use is whether it be PC/Mac, gaming or mobile phone. As things went off in one direction you can hear the sound move across the headphone in that direction whether it be L-R or F-B.The Astro A30 setup was a bit more than I wanted to pay (I opted for the wireless system) but I really have zero complaints about them. The A30 do fantastic job with the simulated 5.1 as sounds were being delivered properly. I tested these with Battlefield 3 and the one problem I had with them is the lower frequency but it's possible it's going to improve as they break in more, much like the music improved. The A30 combined with the Mixamp is just an awesome game experience. While it's not bad if you're on your own in public areas it's something you really need to consider.Gaming:This was my main reason for picking up the A30 and they do not disappoint one bit. The range of the headphones was surprisingly good with this being really evident when listening to a FLAC file.Update - Having really started putting these through their paces I'm noticing there is a lot sound leaking once you get into some higher volumes. Initially they produced a lot of high sounds creating a very bright sound but as I used them more they seemed to settle in nicely. I also had been listening to a wide range of music and the headphones did fine, producing a fairly balanced sound. Across all three the music came through fine and there was no major difference between any of them. I used Spotify, local FLAC file and Subsonic (local music streaming from a HTPC with no compression or transcoding). For traditional PCs there is a cable that allows for Audio/Mic inputs.Music:I used these with a few different audio programs just to get a nice range of options. People on the other end sound clear and don't sound muted at all. The mic that attaches - the mic is removable by the way - is flexible and easy to adjust if you're producing feedback while talking.

I also opted to pick up the Mixamp to allow for wireless and 5.1.Talking/Skype/Google Hangout:The headphones came with a few different cables one of which is 3' 4-pole connector that is meant for mobile phones but works perfectly with the Macbook Pro & Macbook Air I tried them on. I opted for the A30 over the A40 due to the A40 being more geared towards gaming whereas the A30 were designed to be used for gaming and music. This proved to be a little harder than I expected but the Astro line of headphones fit.

When I started shopping around for a better of headphones I wanted to make sure if I was spending a decent chunk of change on headphones they would work across my Xbox, PS3 and PC without much headache when switching between them.
